Fight for Life, needs your help!

Fight For Life is a Charity fund within the University College London Hospitals charities reg no 229771

The Fight for Life children's cancer charity is committed to raising substantial funds each year to maintain the Radiotherapy Unit treating children at the new University College Hospital in Marylebone Road, London.

This unit services all of Great Ormond Street's radiotherapy needs and is the primary paediatric radiotherapy unit in the south-east of England. Since FFL began in 1997 we have purchased our very own Radiotherapy Linear Accelerator machine, a PET/CT Scanner and we maintain a wonderful Children's Play Area which is regularly updated with toys and equipment.

The play area and their wonderful play therapist help to make the unit and the treatment much more 'kid friendly' and much less scary.

Seasons Greetings from Fight For Life x

TrueBeam™
Fight For Lfie's 2011 / 2012 Commitment to the UCLH Children's Radio Therapy Unit

Change has been the inspiration for TrueBeam™ a new, state-of-the-art radiotherapy and radiosurgery system optimized to destroy cancer. It has been built with intelligent engineering, innovative features and intuitive operation. This is based upon years of research, and provides a capability that allows doctors to tailor patients’ treatments for their particular type of cancer.

This new machine will allow us to treat our children with cancer in the most accurate way. Imaging on this new unit is some of the best in the world. The engineering innovations mean we will be able to treat children very quickly with the smallest fields possible – this will allow us to reduce the dose to normal organs and tissue.

There is a fantastic inbuilt intercom system too, so it will be even easier for parents to talk and read stories to their children during Radiotherapy.

Fight for Life's Annual -
Walkers Charity Golf Day

On Thursday 13th October Fight for Life held the 15th Walkers charity golf day at The Grove in Hertfordshire. The weather was perfect for a great day of golf enjoyed by all our supporters old and new. The goody bags were stuffed with golf sets, espa gifts, wallpaper magazines and a Fight for Life weather proof cap.

A huge thank you goes to guest stars photobooth for entertaining at breakfast and providing us with a great dvd and photos of the celebs and golfers. Our sponsors Walkers Crisps, Pepsi, snacks & refreshments were well received at the halfway house and The Grove chef did us proud with a superb supper in the ivory suite. The fundraising was extraordinary, with Bobby Davro doing more than his bit to keep us laughing as auctioneer.
each golf day we are knocked out by the support for our charity though this year was exceptional with a gross figure of £103,000.

Fight for Life is committed to fund the pediatric radio therapy unit at the university college hospital helping it to become one of the best of its kind, in the world. The unit and its fantastic staff continue to do remarkable work with the help of specialized equipment that together with our supporters we are able to purchase for them.

Our host Gary Lineker said he was proud and privileged to be patron of this wonderful charity and thrilled that these golf days have contributed towards saving children's lives. He thanked Pepsico Int' our sponsors, Prezzo plc, The Grove golf team and all the celebrities for hosting their teams making it a fantastic day and probably the most successful fundraising golf day of all.
