Fight for Life, needs your help!Fight For Life is a Charity fund within the University College London Hospitals charities reg no 229771
Fight for Life was formed in 1996 to raise funds to build a dedicated children’s radiotherapy unit at the Middlesex Hospital and later the University College Hospital in London. Our very own Linear Accelerator radiotherapy machine, enabling treatment with the best possible precision and speed, along with our own dedicated children’s play/waiting area. The children under our care, are treated to the very highest standards, and the unit can now claim to be a world-class paediatric cancer treatment centre. As far as we are aware, there is no other similar facility anywhere in Europe. Rapid Arc™, an exciting and innovative computer software programme, which changes the speed of rotation of a Linear Accelerator, the shape of the treatment beam and the radiation dose at the same time allowing the oncology team at UCLH to deliver the optimum tumour coverage together with a better ability to spare healthy tissue. With this brilliant new software we work towards higher radiation doses, with a greater rate of cure and lower risk of side effects to children undergoing treatment. TrueBeam™, our latest £2,500,000 project. A new, state-of-the-art radiotherapy and radiosurgery system optimised to destroy cancer. It has been built with intelligent engineering, innovative features and intuitive operation. This is based upon years of research, and provides a capability that allows doctors to tailor patients’ treatments for their particular type of cancer. Imaging on this new unit is some of the best in the world. The engineering innovations mean we will be able to treat children very quickly – and to reduce the dose to healthy organs and tissue. Fight for Life need YOUR help! Our commitment to the above projects is ongoing. Each year we must raise a minimum of £150,000 to meet the running costs of TrueBeam™ and Rapid Arc™, as well as the upkeep of our unit at the UCLH in London.

The Walkers Gary Lineker Charity Golf Day 2012Our patron Gary Lineker hosted the 16th Walkers Charity Golf Day at ‘The Grove’ on Monday 29th October 2012. Thankfully the weather was good to us though a little chilly, but by all accounts it was a great day of golf enjoyed by all our supporters old and new. After being presented with over-stuffed goody bags and a delicious breakfast in the Stables Restaurant, the players made their way to the courtyard for Gary's welcome. The golfers were briefed and then they took to their buggies for a wonderful game won by the ‘Oakfield’ team with celebrity Will Carling! This year Willie Thorne ran our auction with great skill and we are excited to say we made an amazing total of over £96,000 from the whole day! Each year we are ‘knocked over’ by the support for our charity, as there are so many other golf days. Thank you so very much to all who helped to make this our best golf day yet.
